Sci-fi Suburbia / Matte-painting + Compositing Breakdown
I'm completely in love by the magnificent illustration work of Simon Stålenhag and his books "Tales of the Loop" and "Things from the flood".
This project is a mix of photo manipulation and 3D render compositing (the orb, cables, and snow), inspired by his piece "The Course".
The 3D assets were modeled and rendered inside Foundry's Modo, textured with Substance Painter and composited with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe After Effects.
My main goal was to capture the suburban look of the original illustration and give it a more photorealistic look.
